Pastry Chicago & Esperanza Community Services Collaborated for some Summer Fun
Chicago, Illinois (July 21, 2010) – Ice cream, pastries, ponies, music, games, and tumblers… This sums up Summerfest at Esperanza Community Services on Saturday, July 17. Members of the chef community collaborated with Pastry Chicago in support of Esperanza’s annual summer fundraiser. Folks of all ages gathered for Pastry Chicago’s Second Annual Ice Cream Social and Summerfest. Gourmet treats plus a variety of entertainment were all part of the offerings of Saturday’s event hosted by Esperanza Community Services.

Chicago area ice cream and pastry business owners who donated to the fun family event included Chef Josh Baudin of Sweet Whimsy Pastry; Alison Bower of Ruth and Phil’s Gourmet Ice Cream; Gina Hartwig of Lovely: A Bake Shop; Sarah Levy of Sarah’s Pastries and Candies; James Petrizzo of A New Dairy; Dean Poulos of Homer’s Ice Cream; Laura Vaughn of Washburne Culinary Institute; Jolene Worthington of Eli’s Cheesecake; Tommy Zarlengo of Zarlengo’s Italian Ice; and Chef Scott Green of The French Pastry School.

“I’m always glad to make a contribution to support a great cause,” said Chef Josh Baudin of Sweet Whimsy Pastry Shoppe in Long Grove, Illinois, and alumnus of The French Pastry School. “This is an effort I strive for with my own business, and teaming up with Pastry Chicago is a fantastic outlet for greater outreach to important organizations like Esperanza.”

Donations raised at the event went to Esperanza Community Services which provides instruction and services to adults and children with disabilities, enabling them to reach their fullest potential toward a productive and independent life in the community. Present at the Summerfest on Saturday was the Jesse White Tumbling Team who wowed guests with their energetic and gravity-defying acrobatics, as well as musical performances by Johnny and the Beloveds, The Society Girls, Oba-William King, Madd Rhythms.

“Summerfest is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with Pastry Chicago, bring together different members of the community, and create a truly fun summer celebration” said Diane Farina White, Executive Director of Esperanza Community Services. “We love seeing our clients enriched by the educational opportunities we’re able to provide, as well as seeing them have a great time!”
